Surrounded by the Elk Mountain Range in the Rocky Mountains,
the charming town of Crested Butte is full of history and great fun. The local museum offers
interesting history about a town that began as a result of silver mining and
then coal mining, and today, it is a ski resort. Seen by a walking tour, the former
mining town offers the exploration of more than 40 buildings, some dating back
to the 1880’s. We were
fortunate to visit Crested Butte at the height of its summer flower
festival.
Initially Jeannette was very reluctant to experience
white water river rafting. After
some convincing by the rafting company that it was safe for families with young
children, she agreed to board the raft after safety and navigation
instructions.
After the 3-hour ride in class 2 to 3 white water,
Jeannette was enthusiastically ready to go again!
The Black Canyon formed by
the Gunnison River is one of the longest, narrowest, and deepest gorges in the
world. The Gunnison empties into
the Colorado River at Grand Junction, Colorado.
